Middle School League
Open to all Caddo and Bossier City Private and Public Schools
City of Shreveport Swim Team (COSST) is embarking on new territory in the swim world. COSST is starting a league for local middle school teams that will be open to all Caddo and Bossier Parish public and private schools to compete in during the months of March, April and May. Local teams will compete in meets held at Centenary College after school on Wednesdays. Also, any school team will also be eligible to travel to Lafayette in May to compete in the 2012 Shreveport/Lafayette Challenge.
COSST believes swimming has many advantages that help students improve scholastically. Examples of these include commitment, time management, work-ethic, teamwork, sacrifice, and learning to deal with competitive pressures. In this current generation of digital distractions and social temptations, swimmers are above-average achievers in the classroom. Among NCAA Division-1 2000 Graduation Success Rates, both men and women swimming had the highest percentages out of all other sports. As of 2010, COSST swimmers boasted a median GPA of 3.5 and an incredible 95% college scholarship rate!
Each school will be responsible to organize a team and fill out any paper work required by your school and/or district to complete in competitive middle school athletics. When your necessary paperwork has been completed, please notify COSST at cosstinfo@gmail.com and we will help you from there. COSST will assist with team software to enter and track your athletes as well as help train you on the software. Your program will be off and running from there. A tentative schedule of meets will be posted as soon as possible. We understand that finding a coach is difficult so COSST will offer a training group if your swimmers wish to practice. While there are other programs in the Shreveport/Bossier City area, none are setting up a league for the area and helping schools and kids become more involved in this great sport. COSST has hopes to continue to grow and develop programs for all kids interested in sport that will help kids stay fit for a lifetime.
